MUSEUM MOON LANDING EXHIBITS

It seems like everyone has a show to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo moon landing. Here are just a few of the major ones below, but you can find others, including many in Europe, in our online calendar of photography events here: https://www.iphotocentral.com/calendar/calendar.php.

Metropolitan Museum
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the New York Metropolitan Museum’s “Apollo's Muse: The Moon in the Age of Photography“ will survey visual representations of the moon from the dawn of photography through the present. In addition to photographs, the show will feature a selection of related drawings, prints, paintings, films, astronomical instruments, and cameras used by Apollo astronauts. The exhibit is on view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Galleries 691–693, and 851–852. The show runs from July 3 to September 22, 2019, although a special members-only preview will be held on July 2nd.

National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
The NGA’s show is entitled “By The Light Of The Silvery Moon - A Century of Lunar Photographs to Apollo 11”. It will open on July 14th and run through January 5, 2020. The exhibit is in the West Building, Ground Floor, National Gallery Mall between 4th and 7th Streets at Constitution Ave, NW, Washington, DC.

Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Opening on July 20th, Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts show is entitled: “Shooting the Moon, Photographs from the Museum's Collection 50 Years After Apollo 11: Ansel Adams, David Levinthal, Hiroshi Nomura, Gary Winogrand”. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is located at 1001 Bissonnet, Houston, TX.

There are also museum space exhibits in Europe at FOMU - Fotomuseum Provincie Antwerpen, Waalsekaai 47, B-2000, Antwerp, Belgium; and Fotostiftung Schweiz, Gruzemstrasse 45, CH-8400, Winterthur, Switzerland, both on exhibit until October 6th. Also, at Royal Photographic Society House, 337 Paintworks, Bristol, UK, until Sept. 29th. Details can be found in our online calendar.


SPACE SHOWS AT PHOTO GALLERIES

Obviously with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon mission, space is the hot topic. You can see space-oriented photography shows now at Stephen Bulger Gallery in Toronto and Galerie Gad Collection in Paris.
