Atget Photos Donated to Israel Museum

The Israel Museum has recently received a donation of 200 photographs by Eugène Atget. The donors, Pamela and George Rohr and another individual who wishes to remain anonymous, live in New York.

"We are deeply grateful to our donors for this generous gift," said James S. Snyder, and Anne and Jerome Fisher, directors of the Israel Museum.

Seventy of these new acquisitions will be presented in an exhibition entitled "Eugène Atget: As Paris Was", which just opened and will run through June 3rd in the museum's historic buildings. The exhibition will present Paris from 1890 to 1927. It is believed that this will mark the first time that the works of the French photographer have been exhibited publicly in Israel.
