About This Image

Peter Helms Feresten was a talented documentary photographer. He came to Fort Worth, TX in 1975 to teach photography at a local community college. He had been trained in Sociology and Religion at New York's Columbia University, and in Photography at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree as a Teaching Fellow.Feresten (born 1945) grew up downtown in Fall River, MA. Soon after arriving in Texas, Feresten became aware of the rich culture of the distinct African-American community, which had developed as a separate city within the borders of Fort Worth. He is well recognized there for having contributed to the broader society's understanding of that culture. On September 16, 2007, Feresten passed away.
